This course is designed to provide counsellors with the relevant knowledge and skills to work with different clients with generic and specific needs. It also empowers counsellors to supervise and develop other members of the counselling team and keep up with trends in counselling services.

COURSE CONTENT


• Assess, implement and maintain a safe counselling services and training environment

• Maintain and enhance professional practice as counselling services provider

• Collect, analyze and present workplace data and information in a counselling services environment

• Engage in counselling in situations of generic and specific need

•Engage in counselling with couples, families, groups and children

• Perform counsellor supervision and develop staff

• Update and maintain information about cases and trends in counselling services


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS


Certificate in Counselling Services (Level 3) Community Counselling - or equivalent in terms of

acknowledged Counselling qualification achieved outside of Namibia.

SKILLS YOU WILL DEVELOP


• Follow safety, security and emergency procedures; provide quality client service; implement and maintain a legal and ethical framework for counselling services; and demonstrate personal growth towards maturity as a counsellor 

• Perform specific counselling service activities as part of counselling services including implementing and maintaining an effective counselling services environment; applying principles, approaches and procedures to demonstrate care as a counsellor; conducting community counselling in a structured environment; and engaging in counselling with people on HIV and AIDS.
